Redmi 12 Pro 5G Review

Xiaomi 12 Pro is the company’s premium offering so far in 2022 and Xiaomi has taken a slightly different approach. Instead of just pushing big numbers on the specs page as happened with 11 Ultra, Xiaomi says it is very focused on compliance while still packing enough premium features to justify the price. A quick look at the specs reveals common suspicions about the hardware, but the quad-speaker setup on the Xiaomi 12 Pro is unique and not something we’ve seen on any flagship phone in India.

Xiaomi 12 Pro is also less expensive than last year’s Mi 11 Ultra, probably because it is not a straightforward location. Rumors suggest that an additional premium model called 12 Ultra may be in the works and should feature Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ SoC. Right now, the 12 Pro is Xiaomi’s flagship phone, and after using it for a week, I found it to be very good. But is it better than the flags from the OnePlus and iQoo?

Xiaomi 12 Pro is available from Rs. 62,999 in India for 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. The second variant has 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and costs Rs. 66,999, and this variation I have in this review. The phone is available in three categories: Couture Blue, Noir Black, and Opera Mauve.

Xiaomi’s 12 Pro has a premium and matte finish body design. The metal frame is very small on the left and right side of the phone, where the front and rear glass turns to meet it. The frame and rear panel of the Corning Gorilla Glass 5 have matte strips, making the device very smooth. The rear camera module is made of metal and looks modern and sophisticated due to the fine lines that separate the sensors. Holes and all cuts in the steel frame are polished to perfection, with no sharp edges or corners.

While the Xiaomi 12 Pro is a state-of-the-art smartphone, it does not have the official IP rating for dust and water resistance. Xiaomi has confirmed in Gadget 360 that the phone has all the features needed to meet the IP53 standard, but this is not enough for this price, in my opinion, as we expect nothing below the IP68 standard. It is very common for Android developers to skip getting an official IP certificate late, perhaps to save some money. However, given the fact that even most budget phones like the Redmi Note 11S have a minimum IP53 rating, it is surprising that we are not so sure about the flagship offering.

The 6.73 inch AMOLED phone display has Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus protection and is also good for fingerprint resistance. The glass cover turns sharply on both sides but the display has a very soft curve. There are speaker top and bottom grille, and infrared emitter at the top.

Xiaomi 12 Pro has one of the most powerful processors Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. The internal storage cannot be stretched. Communication levels include a few 5G bands, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, and multi-satellite navigation systems.

The Xiaomi 12 Pro display offers a high-resolution rate of 120Hz, as well as a touch rate of 480Hz. LTPO 2.0 technology allows the refresh rate to drop as low as 1Hz to save energy. It also has an embedded fingerprint reader. WQHD + resolution (3200 x 1400 pixels) makes the density at 522ppi.

Xiaomi 12 Pro did as expected in the benchmark test. The phone scored 9,82,727 points on AnTuTu, with 1,237 points and 3,654 points in one Geekbench test and multi-core respectively, all in line with the competition. The functionality of the software was also smooth and wet for everyday use.

The display is very bright on the outside and produces very precise colors when using the ‘original color’ mode. There are also ‘color variables’ in the Settings application that adjusts display colors based on ambient brightness. The content looks sharp on the 12 Pro display, which also features Dolby Vision and HDR10 + certification. While Netflix-supported content looks good, HDR videos streamed via Amazon Prime Video look a little darker. Dolby Vision HDR support is not something we see on most Android phones.

The Xiaomi 12 Pro has three rear-facing cameras and all have 50-megapixel resolutions, which according to Xiaomi, should deliver consistent image quality. The main camera has OIS, the ultra-wide-angle camera has a 115-degree viewing angle, and the telephoto camera delivers 2X optical zoom (48mm). Your photos are captured with a 32-megapixel front-facing camera. The 12 Pro main camera is the first to use the new Sony 1 / 1.28-inch IMX707 sensor with 1.22μm pixels. This, in turn, should help bring more detail to all types of lighting conditions. It is significantly larger than the Sony IMX766 (1 / 1.56-inch) sensor, which we have seen on most 2022 Android flags.

Xiaomi 12 Pro has some useful features “Pro” as well. Can record video on screen off to save power. There is even an earlobe feature that you can use to listen to audio recordings. Video Pro lets you capture video in Log format (flat colour profile) for colouring in background production. Focusing too much and ensuring exposure can be helpful to professionals.
