According to a recent report, the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro Max/Ultra will incorporate a “periscope lens” that can provide up to twice the optical zoom compared to the current maximum of 3x. The technology will likely be available only on the highest-end model of the upcoming iPhone series, positioning the iPhone 15 Pro Max/Ultra above the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, and iPhone 15 Pro.
How Periscope Lens Technology Works
Periscope lens technology enables users to capture photos with up to 6x zoom using the rear camera without compromising image quality or clarity. This technology uses the refraction of light to magnify images. Unlike traditional zoom lenses for DSLR cameras, the lens mechanics are built inside the smartphone rather than outside. With smartphones getting smaller, the lenses have become small enough to fit into a regular lens enclosure without taking up too much internal space. Availability of Periscope Lens Technology in Other Smartphones
Several smartphone brands, such as Samsung, Google, and OnePlus, have already incorporated periscope lens technology into their devices. Apple will not be the first brand to introduce it. Periscope lens technology was first introduced by OPPO, and it was later featured on the 2019 Huawei P30 Pro, making it the first mainstream phone to have this technology. In India, the technology is already available on the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra and its successor, the Galaxy S23 Ultra.Best Apple Power Banks for iPhones in India
