How does the UPI work?

UPI has made the transfer process much easier. You must not remember the recipient’s account number, account type, IFSC, and bank name. Instead, you can make a transfer by knowing their Aadhaar number, registered phone number and bank account, or UPI ID. You can set a UPI ID in one of the applications that support the UPI service. In particular, the UPI ID starts with your mobile number followed by the ‘@’ symbol and ends with the app you use.

For example, if your mobile number is 90xxxxxx60 and if you use the Paytm app, the UPI ID can be ‘90xxxxxx60 @ paytm’. The ID can be set by providing the details of your bank account in the application. The application will send OTP to your registered mobile number to verify that you are an authorized person. Once you have installed OTP, you will be asked to create a UPI ID PIN. When you finish signing up, you can select any mobile phone number from your contacts and send money. You can also request money from anyone on your contact list. Top 10 Best Investment Options to Get Higher Return in Future

What are the features and benefits of using UPI?

  1. Online payments have been simplified.
  2. Pay for your greetings, food delivery services, and shopping places with UPI payments for instant bag transfers.
  3. Pay at nearby restaurants, grocery stores, and online department stores.
  4. Rentals, mobile charges, and service bill payments can be made online immediately.

Is it safe?

The UPI functionality uses a highly secure encryption format that is not easy to break. The NPCI IMPS network handles approximately Rs.8,000 crore daily. This is expected to increase significantly with UPI technology. It uses a two-factor authentication method, such as OTP, to verify all transactions. However, the UPI PIN will be used instead of OTP for authentication.
